Drawing Shorebirds

stilt postureThe shorebird migration is on all over the Bay Area. Drawing shorebirds will train your eye to capture the subtlety and nuance of shape and the contrast of size. At high tide, shorebirds will flock together making comparison and sketching much easier. Learn the details of wader anatomy that are relevant for field sketchers and bird artists. Discover tricks to get down the shape quickly and easily, even on a bird that is moving. Learn the basic feather groups and how to imply feather detail. Discover the variation in bill shapes and how to draw them. Master tricks for drawing the long kinked necks of herons and egrets. Learn to draw legs and balance your birds.

Be sure to note the venue change this month. We will meet in building 1216 at Fort Scott in the Presidio.

Directions Via 101 South:
-Take first exit right after the Golden Gate toll plaza to your right onto Merchant Road.
-Follow Merchant Road to four-way stop and continue straight, Merchant Road turns into Storey Avenue.
-Follow Storey Avenue past ball fields and take a right onto Ralston Avenue—parking is to your right (free).
-Presidio Natural Resources, Building 1216, is the second white building on the right.

Directions Via 101 North:
Take last San Francisco exit before the Golden Gate toll plaza on your right.
-Follow this exit as it veers right to four-way stop.
-Turn right onto Lincoln Blvd and follow to four-way stop.
-Take a left onto Storey Avenue and follow past ball fields.
-Take right onto Ralston Avenue—parking is to your right (free).
-Presidio Natural Resources, Building 1216, is the second white building on the right.
